President’s Message

Aloha,

Happy spring! It looks as though we are finally enjoying some improvement in our weather and we can prepare for more outdoor activities as we head into summer.

I hope you have taken advantage of some of the great CEUs being offered by ASID, IIDA and NKBA. We have all come together to cross promote our efforts and try to provide all our memberships with some great events. The next event will be the BLUM event at Pacific Source on April 25. If you haven’t RSVP’d yet please do so. Please go to https://hi.asid.org/events/ to see all of our local events. I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events.

We recently had a student mixer at Chaminade University which was very successful. Although we wished more professionals would have been there, those that were had a great time and the students learned a lot about ASID and the interior design field through social interaction with the professional members.

We are going to hold our next board meeting on Monday, April 29 at 4:30pm at Chaminade University, Eiben Hall #209, so that some of the students can attend and see how ASID works. Students are the future of our association. If you’d like to attend the board meeting, you are welcome to join us. Our focus will be on our upcoming event in September: Design Impacts Lives. We plan to repeat the sample sale and have CEUs that will be open to professionals (who can attend for credit) and to the general public. It will be a great opportunity to meet people with an interest in using professional designers. We will also have panel discussions and a mini trade show. If any IP members are interested in participating, please let me know.

We are also in the planning stage of our Designing Ladies Tea, which will be this June. It will be a Saturday event at the Moana Hotel Veranda. We will be including our friends at IIDA, NKBA, BIA and AIA. Join the fun and enter the contest for the best hat or hoku lei made of recycled materials… more details to follow.

We are still in need of a treasurer and president-elect for 2020/2021. Please step up and support the industry association that has supported you in your career.

Here's wishing you a happy Easter filled with family and friends.

With gratitudeand aloha,

Tiare Noelani Pinto, Allied ASID, CKD

One Voice

Each day interior designers use their voices and visions to reshape spaces--and therefore the lives of those occupying them--for the better. With those same voices working in unison, they have the power to design a better future for themselves and the entire profession. That is why ASID began One Voice; to empower interior designers to get involved and advocate for or against the public policy that will ultimately influence their careers and lives. For more info:

The Intrinsic Need for Healthy and Sustainable Materials
Interiors+Sources

The built environment accounts for over two-thirds of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. In the majority of the places we live, work and play, research has realized that indoor air quality is more polluted than the outdoors, even in the largest industrialized metropolitan areas. This is cause for concern because humans spend over 90% of our time indoors.

  • ASID Academy: ASID assembled this catalog of online design courses, papers, and videos to bring the best continuing education offerings to ASID members and other designers in an easily-accessible, online-anytime, curated collection. Earn IDCEC and AIA-approved and accredited CEUs in a variety of topic areas including health and wellness, biophilia, HSW, and much more. CEUs

ASID members must earn a minimum of 1.0 unit (10 hours) of approved continuing education (CEU) every two years. We’ve updated the instructions for CEU reporting that align with IDCEC’s new website to help you navigate the process.

ASID members are to utilize the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC) registry to warehouse CEUs. Every ASID member has a unique IDCEC number to login into the website (your IDCEC number is different than your ASID number). The IDCEC user registry allows you to upload and track your continuing education activity as well as store a record under your account. Check your IDCEC account regularly to ensure your records are up to date.

Awards & Competition

Each year, ASID recognizes the exemplary achievements and outstanding service demonstrated by highly engaged members, chapters, student chapters, and industry partners through our awards and honors programs.
