E-Newsletter: July/August 2017

President's Message

Aloha,

I hope hope everyone had a relaxing and safe Fourth of July weekend. I’m sure many of you have fabulous summer plans with family and friends. ASID board members will spend part of their summer firming up the details of the Design Excellence Awards, which will be held at the Pacific Club on September 16.  We hope you will join us as we honor Hawaii’s finest interior designers, celebrate design, and introduce new ASID Hawaii Chapter board members. The celebration includes an evening cocktail hour and networking, dinner, and awards presentation. Details are still being firmed up, but invitations will go out soon. We only have a group of seven volunteers (our hard-working board members) and we really need help. We would like the awards gala to be a fun and memorable event, but in order to do so, we need help securing sponsors and items for the raffles. Please contact me at chuen@mcyia.com if you can volunteer at the gala, donate prizes, or be a sponsor.

As we continue with our planning for the remainder of this year and 2018, we absolutely welcome your comments on what we should improve and ideas on events you would like us to put on… let us know, we would love to hear from you!

We are still seeking candidates for Financial Director, Professional Development Director and At Large Director. Please contact Nancy Schnur at nancy.uillc@gmail.com if you are interested.

Mahalo,

Chuen Yee, ASID
Hawaii Chapter President

Curbed

If this digital measuring tape is any indication of the practical future of augmented reality, then there’s a lot to look forward to. Called AR Measure and developed by Laan Labs, the coming-soon iOS app turns any iPhone or iPad into a virtual ruler that can measure just about anything (within reason, of course).

Cheesecake Factory Interior Are Weird and Wonderful
Eater
The Cheesecake Factory, in all of its gold-hued, dark-wood opulence; romance novel-length menu; and ancient-Egypt-meets-Vegas-Strip vibe, might not be the American dream, but certainly an American dream. It’s America’s No. 1 ranked casual-dining chain, a cult favorite among NBA players, and a place Drake never wants to fight in. It has a menu Neil Gaiman might read to raise money for charity.
