Hau’oli La Ho’omaika’i!

President’s Message

Aloha and Happy Thanksgiving from the ASID Hawaii Chapter Board! Members!

The ASID Hawaii Chapter 2019-2020 Board of Directors first meeting and retreat was held on November 2 and 3. We spent many hours developing our 2020 calendar with events to excite all of our members.

First, we are so very excited and energized to bring back our Design Excellence Awards Gala for 2020. It will be held on June 27, 2020, at the Entrepreneurs Sandbox, located in Honolulu. We are currently working on the Design Excellence schedule, program, and when submissions will be accepted. This is the time to think about your inspiring designs for submission! Our Board cannot do this grand event without help from our members. Please contact McKenna Makizuru, the Chair of this event, at makenna@funghawaii.com, or by phone at (808) 941-3000 ext. 314 to volunteer

The holiday party, usually held in December, is being changed to the Spring Fling. This will be in association with NKBA, IIDA and ASID. The scheduled date is March 20 at the Ko’olau Ballroom.

The first General Membership Meeting on Oahu is scheduled for January 23 at 4:00 pm. We are currently working on where we will be holding this meeting, so stay tuned! Our General Membership Meeting for Maui is scheduled for February 22. More information on time and location to follow.

We will again have a booth at the BIA 2020 Big Home Building & Remodeling Show, located at the Neal S. Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Hours are Friday, January 24, 5:00pm-9:00pm, Saturday, January 25, 9:00am-7:00pm, and Sunday, January 26, 9:00am-4:00pm. We will need many volunteers from our organization to help man our complementary booth. Tiare Pinto is the Chair for this event. Please contact her if you are available.

Cassandra Okimoto will be stepping up as our Media Director in addition to her position as Communications Director. Look for her posts which should be coming out very soon.

Our Board is working on events which support our student membership. We are proud to announce that Samantha Mortimer, our Student Rep to the Board, was selected to attend the three-day ASID SCALE Summit. This will be held in Seattle, Washington, in February 2020.

The entire board is looking forward to all the exciting events we have planned for you this coming year. Remember to volunteer whenever you can!

With much aloha,

Dee Dee Ackerman, Allied ASID Member

That is why ASID began One Voice; to empower interior designers to get involved and advocate for or against the public policy that will ultimately influence their careers and lives.
